So last summer we had carpenter bees, and for those of you who don’t know they carve nice little holes in your house. Apparently I didn’t manage to get them all, because this summer every time I go to take a nap there is this tap tap tap sound. It took me a while, but eventually I figured out what it was, mainly from all the extra holes in the house. I guess the woodpecker is after the bees babies. Just not good for napping though. lol
It will also mean a trip to the home depot to get hole filling stuff plus some bug killer I guess.
Well it is over and school is out for summer. It also means I am out of a job, but I am hopeful that something will come up over the summer break. Tonight I am turning off all the alarm clocks and am going to do my best slug impersonation. Have a great summer.
As I was leaving bible study tonight the song on the radio was “We are the Champions” by Queen and I was struck by how this applied to the bible study we had just finished “Living Victoriously in Difficult Times”, because the truth is we are are the champions, we have God on our side and nothing can beat us.
I’ve paid my dues -
Time after time -
(1Pe 4:16) However, if you suffer because you are a Christian, don’t be ashamed of it, but thank God that you bear Christ’s name.
(Joh 15:18) “If the world hates you, just remember that it has hated me first.
(Joh 15:19) If you belonged to the world, then the world would love you as its own. But I chose you from this world, and you do not belong to it; that is why the world hates you.
I’ve done my sentence
But committed no crime –
(Job 1:6) When the day came for the heavenly beings to appear before the LORD, Satan was there among them.
(Job 1:7) The LORD asked him, “What have you been doing?” Satan answered, “I have been walking here and there, roaming around the earth.”
(Job 1:8) “Did you notice my servant Job?” the LORD asked. “There is no one on earth as faithful and good as he is. He worships me and is careful not to do anything evil.”
(Job 1:9) Satan replied, “Would Job worship you if he got nothing out of it?
(Job 1:10) You have always protected him and his family and everything he owns. You bless everything he does, and you have given him enough cattle to fill the whole country.
(Job 1:11) But now suppose you take away everything he has—he will curse you to your face!”
(Job 1:12) “All right,” the LORD said to Satan, “everything he has is in your power, but you must not hurt Job himself.” So Satan left.
And bad mistakes
I’ve made a few
(Col 3:25) And all wrongdoers will be repaid for the wrong things they do, because God judges everyone by the same standard.
(1Pe 4:15) If you suffer, it must not be because you are a murderer or a thief or a criminal or a meddler in other people’s affairs.
(Heb 12:5) Have you forgotten the encouraging words which God speaks to you as his children? “My child, pay attention when the Lord corrects you, and do not be discouraged when he rebukes you.
(Heb 12:6) Because the Lord corrects everyone he loves, and punishes everyone he accepts as a child.”
(Heb 12:7) Endure what you suffer as being a father’s punishment; your suffering shows that God is treating you as his children. Was there ever a child who was not punished by his father?
(Heb 12:8) If you are not punished, as all his children are, it means you are not real children, but bastards.
(Heb 12:9) In the case of our human fathers, they punished us and we respected them. How much more, then, should we submit to our spiritual Father and live!
(Heb 12:10) Our human fathers punished us for a short time, as it seemed right to them; but God does it for our own good, so that we may share his holiness.
(Heb 12:11) When we are punished, it seems to us at the time something to make us sad, not glad. Later, however, those who have been disciplined by such punishment reap the peaceful reward of a righteous life. I’ve had my share of sand kicked in my face -
But I’ve come through
(1Co 10:13) Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.
We are the champions – my friends And we’ll keep on fighting – till the end –
(Jas 1:12) Happy are those who remain faithful under trials, because when they succeed in passing such a test, they will receive as their reward the life which God has promised to those who love him.
We are the champions -
We are the champions
No time for losers
(1Pe 5:8) Be alert, be on watch! Your enemy, the Devil, roams around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
(Joh 8:44) You are the children of your father, the Devil, and you want to follow your father’s desires. From the very beginning he was a murderer and has never been on the side of truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he is only doing what is natural to him, because he is a liar and the father of all lies.
(1Th 3:5) That is why I had to send Timothy. I could not bear it any longer, so I sent him to find out about your faith. Surely it could not be that the Devil had tempted you and all our work had been for nothing!
‘Cause we are the champions – of the world –
I’ve taken my bows
And my curtain calls -
You brought me fame and fortune and everything that goes with it
I thank you all -
(Rom 5:3) We also boast of our troubles, because we know that trouble produces endurance,
(Php 1:12) I want you to know, my friends, that the things that have happened to me have really helped the progress of the gospel.
2Co 1:3-7
(3) Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the merciful Father, the God from whom all help comes!
(4) He helps us in all our troubles, so that we are able to help others who have all kinds of troubles, using the same help that we ourselves have received from God.
(5) Just as we have a share in Christ’s many sufferings, so also through Christ we share in God’s great help.
(6) If we suffer, it is for your help and salvation; if we are helped, then you too are helped and given the strength to endure with patience the same sufferings that we also endure.
(7) So our hope in you is never shaken; we know that just as you share in our sufferings, you also share in the help we receive.
1Sa 2:1 Hannah prayed: “The LORD has filled my heart with joy; how happy I am because of what he has done! I laugh at my enemies; how joyful I am because God has helped me!
Job 22:26 Then you will always trust in God and find that he is the source of your joy. But it’s been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise -
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race -
Php 1:14
(14) And my being in prison has given most of the believers more confidence in the Lord, so that they grow bolder all the time to preach the message fearlessly. And I ain’t gonna lose –
We are the champions – my friends
And we’ll keep on fighting – till the end -
We are the champions -
We are the champions
No time for losers
‘Cause we are the champions – of the world -
No matter what our troubles or our problems the Lord is with us supporting us and helping us to overcome any challenge. In the end the Lord offers us the ultimate champions trophy of eternal life and all we have to do is trust in him.
Col 3:1-4
(1) You have been raised to life with Christ, so set your hearts on the things that are in heaven, where Christ sits on his throne at the right side of God.
(2) Keep your minds fixed on things there, not on things here on earth.
(3) For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
(4) Your real life is Christ and when he appears, then you too will appear with him and share his glory!

Over spring break Heidi worked to keep me nice and busy. Some of you may have read her blog on the subject but there are some inconsistencies with her story I need to correct. (http://heiditheophilus.wordpress.com/) You can click on the picture below to see some pictures of the island.
I do believe Heidi felt I was not working out hard enough at the gym so she got me a new one at a third of the price (see big pile of dirt below). The island progressed slowly with Heidi first painting the shape she wanted on the ground (you may notice this differs from her version which had a lot of “we”). I then faithfully followed that shape in laying out the bricks. After that we then moved the blocks into the shape Heidi actually wanted – several times. In the end I left her to it and went back to the Home Depot for more bricks. All this during snow and sunshine – crazy weather. After that the dirt was delivered a dumptruck full and I had the fun task of moving it from beside the garden into it. Heidi did suggest we hire a bobcat to shift the dirt but being the budget conscious lad that I am I said no. By the end of the day with every muscle aching and blister developing on my hand I was seriously reconsidering the budget. Anyway three days later all the dirt was in, although there is still half a pile of dirt that needs to be spread over uneven places in the lawn. Then it was time for the plants and then finally the lights. The garden looks pretty impressive if I say so myself.

It is wonderful that Heidi spent the time cleaning out her closet, although a few of her “Monk”-like tendencies came through such as sending me out on Christmas Eve to find 85 red coat hangers so that they could be color coordinated. Otherwise the Christmas season has been good with another flying trip up to Michigan – getting the time down on that trip managed it in about 11 hours on the way up and it would have been a similar time back except for the pit of the world known locally as the road between Dayton and Cincinati, Ohio. There we manged to spend nearly two hours travelling just 50 miles. All legs were crossed on that little section of the trip.
While up North we stayed with Heidi’s parents and had a most enjoyable visit. I went a saw “Yes Man” with Heidi’s father and brother – a good film for a laugh. We also went swimming with snow on the ground. It was inside but it still seems crazy to go swimming when it is that cold. We also had a super fast visit with Matt, Colleen, and Bram. They had been sick from both ends over the Christmas period so a fast visit was good as neither Heidi or I wanted to catch what was going around that household.
Now we are back home and have enjoyed a relaxing few days before school starts again. I have got an appointment with the immigration service to have my fingerprints taken $80 – thankfully already payed for. However we also got another letter from them asking for yet another form to be filled out so we are working on that one as well. All fun. I have also been working on backdrops for church – on the cheap. 2 $2.50 sheets from Walmart and 2 $2.47 poles from Home Depot. I do enjoy the painting though so I am going to make acouple more, just not sure what the design will be.

I passed the GACE tests. It is great that I passed them, but it is even greater that I don’t have to do them again (who could believe I passed the grammar section). If you have to ever sit the GACE examinations, all 5 in one day try to build up your writing callouses beforehand otherwise it will be a painful day.
I have noticed something about the love of my life she is very similar to one Adrian Monk. I have to come to this realization after helping Heidi to pack up her classroom at Trinity. We had been putting everything into boxes and shifting them down the stairs to the back of the truck and the furniture was kind of scattered around the classroom. I watched as Heidi picked up a chair carried it to the front of the room, put it down next to the wall, walk away, walk back, pick up the chair carry it over to a table and put it under it. Then there was another chair there that wasn’t quite under the table and Heidi straightened that one and made sure both chairs were evenly spaced at the table. Bear in mind we didn’t have to tidy the room just pack up Heidi’s stuff. After observing this other moments come to mind moving pictures and furniture backwards and forwards to find the perfect space. Ask our neighbor about the office furniture.
I found this little beauty in the yard as I was checking out my ultra slow growing new grass. I rolled over a pine cone and he had a go at biting me – missed though. I then proceeded to chase him all over the yard trying to get him to stay still and try to bite as I took a photo. I don’t think he is poisonous but check out these pictures of what he might be and you tell me.
Eastern Garter Snake
Eastern Ribbon Snake
I also thought I would include this picture of this cool spider we have
living in the back yard.
She has a really strange web with a zig zag pattern down the middle. I am not keen to find out if she bites.
